Root Canal Treatments in Mississauga, ON
Every part of the body has its blood and nerve supplies. Our teeth are no different. At Pearl Dental Care, we know it can be hard to think of teeth that way. The exposed parts of the teeth look solid with no vessels or nerves.
Teeth get their blood supply and innervations through their core. It’s part of the tooth, also referred to as the pulp. The pulp is hidden in the tooth behind the gums. We can’t normally see it. At Pearl Dental Care, we get patients who need root canal treatments in Mississauga, ON. This is done to treat conditions affecting the pulp or root canal.
Indications for Root Canals
The pulp is fairly hidden and protected. It’s inside the tooth and covered by the gum. That doesn’t mean it’s completely protected, though. Bacteria can sometimes reach the pulp leading to root canal problems. Patients often complain of increased hot and cold sensitivity or severe pain.
Since these symptoms can be caused by other things too, we have to examine your teeth. We might require an x-ray of your teeth to show us the jawbones and deeper parts of your teeth. These are difficult to visualize on examination but are important to assess before treatment.
Root Canal Treatments
At Pearl Dental Care, we have plenty of experience with endodontic treatments or root canals. To keep you feeling comfortable throughout the procedure, we’ll inject local anesthesia into the affected area. After it becomes numb, we’ll create an opening to gain access to the pulp of the affected tooth.
Once we reach the pulp, we start cleaning it and removing all the unhealthy tissue. Irrigation with sterile water or antimicrobial solution might be done for additional cleansing. After everything is cleaned, we’ll seal the opening we created. The procedure isn’t over yet. Patients need crowns after endodontic treatments.
A crown is placed over the tooth like a cap. It strengthens and protects it. You’ll need to come in for at least two visits to complete your root canal treatment. We’ll be with you every step of the way to answer any questions you might have.
