Why this matters
Dental bills shouldn’t leave you wincing before you ever open your mouth. That’s the simple promise behind Canada’s now‑fully‑launched Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), and it’s the reason we’ve refreshed this page with the latest 2025 rules, dates, and insider tips.
What’s New for 2025?
- Applications are wide open. All eligible Canadian children, seniors, and adults aged 18–64 can now apply, with coverage kicking in as early as June 1, 2025.
- Streamlined online portal. You can complete the entire application inside your My Service Canada Account (MSCA) in minutes.
- Letter equals launch. Once you receive your CDCP welcome letter, the clock starts: the date printed there is your official coverage start.
Do You Qualify? (4 Must‑Meet Rules)
- No current dental insurance. Employer, student, private, or pension plans all count if you have one; you’re out.
- Filed 2024 tax returns. Both you and your spouse/partner (if you have one) must have a 2024 Notice of Assessment on file.
- Adjusted family net income < $90 000. Under $70 000? Great, keep reading. $70 000–89 999? You’ll still qualify, but co‑payments apply.
- Canadian resident for tax purposes. In other words, you live here at least for the CRA.
Already on a provincial or federal dental social program? You may still be eligible. CDCP simply coordinates benefits to avoid overlap.
How to Apply (Step‑by‑Step)
- Gather your info: SIN, date of birth, full legal name, home + mailing address, and any government dental coverage you already receive.
- Log in to MSCA: From your dashboard, click “Apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.”
- Fill in the blanks: The form takes most people 10–15 minutes.
- Hit submit and relax: You’ll get an application code right away, plus a confirmation email or letter.
- Can’t apply online? Call 1‑833‑537‑4342 (TTY: 1‑833‑677‑6262) or drop by any Service Canada office.
Need help? A trusted friend, translator, caregiver, or legal delegate can apply on your behalf as long as you give explicit consent.
After You Apply
- Watch for the letter. It lists your CDCP member ID, coverage start date, and co‑payment level.
- Check status anytime: Use the online status checker tool with your application code or call the automated line (same number as above, option 3).
How Much Will CDCP Pay?
Adjusted Family Net Income | CDCP Pays | You Pay (Co‑payment) |
Below $70 000 | 100 % | 0 % |
$70 000 – $79 999 | 60 % | 40 % |
$80 000 – $89 999 | 40 % | 60 % |
Heads‑up: If your provider’s fees are higher than CDCP’s established rates or if you agree to services CDCP doesn’t cover, you’ll pay the difference.
Services Typically Covered
- Exams & X‑rays
- Cleanings and scaling
- Fillings
- Root canal treatments

Coverage is needed‑based: your oral‑health provider must recommend each service.
